Karl Chabot

With a practice focused on civil and commercial litigation, Karl Chabot navigates through different industries. Representing individuals, franchisees, SMEs and large corporations, he acts for clients at every stage of a dispute, from the initial strategic advice to ultimately appearing before Québec’s first instance courts and the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Chabot also practises in professional liability. He represents professionals from various industries in the context of disciplinary complaints, professional liability issues and contractual matters. He also practises in health law, namely in the medical, hospital and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as in insurance.

Through a client-oriented approach, Mr. Chabot strives to prevent or reach an early resolution of contentious situations. Focused on the rapid and permanent resolution of conflicts, he adopts a pragmatic and efficient strategies to offer sustainable and viable solutions to clients.

In 2021, Mr. Chabot was appointed as a Young Governor of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec, as well as member in charge of a committee of the Advocates’ society – Quebec.

Representative work

Acted for several financial institutions in the context of claims related to the exercise of their security interests.

Represented clients in the context of injunction matters

Representation of a national supermarket chain in numerous real estate disputes.

Representation of a real estate developer before the Quebec Court of Appeal further to a declaration of abuse of process issued by the Superior Court against the opposing party.

Representation of a travel wholesaler against a travel agent and his travel agency for fraud, financial damages and damage to reputation, and to obtain a permanent injunction.

Advised and represented several health establishments on different matters, including governance and access to information.

Representation of the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal in an appeal before the Court of Quebec (Administrative and Appeal Division) in matters of access to information (CIUSSS de l ‘West Island of Montreal v. Perry, 2021 QCCQ 1534).

Mandated by the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-Île-de-Montréal to represent its health professionals in the context of the Desmond Fatality Inquiry.
