The Honourable Michel Yergeau Joins LCM Attorneys as Senior Counsel

We are delighted to announce the arrival of the Honourable Michel Yergeau to the LCM team, as Senior Counsel. A pioneer in environmental law and a public law expert, Maître Yergeau’s career is more than impressive. In 1979, he was appointed vice-president of the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE), created a few months earlier. He held this position until 1984, when he returned to private law practice with the law firm Lavery, of which he was president from 1987 to 2010. In 1987, he formed the Environmental Law team, the first of its kind to be created within a major law firm. In 2007, he was awarded the Prix du Mérite by the Bar of Québec and was one of the very first lawyers to receive the honorary title of Advocatus Emeritus (Ad.E.). Then, in 2012, the Canadian government appointed him to the Superior Court, where he served as a judge until the mandatory retirement age, in 2022. During these years, he often presided over trials raising complex issues and rendered several landmark decisions in many areas, including professional liability, fundamental rights, the Canadian and Quebec Charters, environment law, pay equity issues and freedom of religion. Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Maître Yergeau brings the depth of his experience as both a litigator and judge for the benefit of our clients. His unique background allows him to act with precision as an arbitrator and mediator, handling the most complex and sensitive legal challenges. We are honored to have him on our team, providing guidance that combines vision and expertise.
